June 2023

This will be my last newsletter as we will begin transitioning leadership later this month. I am excited to announce that Kristin Kaye has been nominated as President for the 2023-2024 season. Kristin moved to town in 2019 and has been a member of New ‘n Towne for 4 years. She has played an integral part of the Board for 3 years, serving as the VP of Membership for 2 years and most recently as the VP of Business. I am very excited to work with Kristin during this transition and I very much look forward to watching her succeed in her new role!

We have a lot of new families so I wanted to take a moment to outline the summer downtime and transition procedures. Every year we vote on the next year’s board positions. This vote will happen at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday. All members are invited and encouraged to attend. Board positions are 1 year terms, with many individuals volunteering to stay on for additional terms. The Board will transition at the end of this month. The President serves a 1 year term; I will transition into the Parliamentarian role and stay on the Board in an advisory capacity for an additional year. With all of the summer vacations, the Activity Chairs are not expected to offer monthly events, and New ‘n Towne takes a short break. That said, there still might be an occasional event, such as Book Club or the summer concert. You can always take advantage of the members only Facebook group to post a date and time for a spontaneous meet-up at the park/pool/pond, etc.

In the Fall, families will be asked to renew their dues. Dues are $40 and go towards subsidizing the cost of events. Anyone that has joined on or after April 1, 2023 will be grandfathered in to the 2023-2024 season. Through dues and fundraising efforts such as Touch-a-Truck, New ‘n Towne was able to donate $3,500 back to the Medfield community this year. I wanted to let you know where that money is going. The Board voted and approved the following transactions. Each year, New ‘n Towne awards 2 $500 scholarships to two high school seniors who have a history of service to the betterment of the Medfield community, an established record of community service throughout high school and an excellent academic record. This year's recipients are Johanna Brooslin and Ethan Collins. New ‘n Towne sponsored a $250 brick as part of the Hinkley Helpers fundraising drive to build a fun, safe and inclusive playground at Hinkley. The following groups received a $500 donation: Zullo Gallery and Medfield Foundation. The following groups received a $250 donation: Medfield Animal Shelter, Medfield Food Cupboard, Medfield Public Library, Memorial Playground Rebuild Project and MCPE.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Board members and Activity Chairs for all of their hard work this season. These individuals are who make New 'n Towne what it is - they have kept our calendar busy with a variety of events. We have a few individuals rolling off of the Board this year and I wanted to especially thank them for everything they have done for the organization over the years. They have volunteered their time to lead events and help bring people together. Thank you to Katie Briedis, Jen McLaughlin, Molly Abbott, Leah Hampton, Sam Rautenberg and last but certainly not least, Meg Cabezud, current Parliamentarian, former President. Meg has been a wealth of knowledge and her dedication to improving and marketing New 'n Towne really helped us grow during the Covid years. I am very appreciative of her guidance throughout my tenure! I also want to thank you, the members, for being engaged and attending the events and sharing the word about New 'n Towne. While the Board does have a playbook of 'tried and true' events, we are always looking for ways to improve so feel free to reach out with any ideas you might have. This club is for you, so we want to make sure that you are getting the most out of it!

THANK YOU! I hope to see you around town!

President, New‘nTowne
